MANAGMENT
EXERCISE
Keywords:-
· Agriculture practices- The various
tasks performed by a farmer to produce a good crop are called agricultural
practices.
· Animal husbandry- Food is also
obtained from animals for which animals are reared. This is called animal
husbandry.
· Crop- When the same kind of plants
are grown and cultivated at one place on a large scale, it is called a crop.
· Fertilizers-A chemical fertilizers is
a salt or an organic compound containing the necessary plant nutrients like
nitrogen phosphorous or potassium, to make the soil more fertile.
· Granaries-Granaries are storehouse
where the farmers keep their grain for storage after harvesting.
· Harvesting-The cutting of crop after
it is mature is called harvesting.
· Irrigation-The supply of water to
crops at regular intervals is called irrigation.
· Kharif-The crops which are sown in
the rainy season are called Kharif crop ex- paddy etc.
· Manure-The substance which are added
to the soil in the form of nutrient for the healthy growth of plants are called
manure.
· Plough-Plough is a tool used in
agriculture which is made of wood or iron and it helps in tilling the soil and
removing the weeds.
· Rabi-The crops which are sown in the
winter season are called Rabi crop ex- wheat etc.
· Seeds- The small and hard part of a
plant which grows into a new plant and same kind of plant.
· Silo-Silo is the cylindrical concrete
constructions in which grains are stored on large scale to protect them from
pests, like rats and insects.
· Sowing- Sowing means putting the
seeds into the soil so that they can grow plants.
· Storage- Storage is the process of
storing food grains for a long time so that they can be used further.
· Threshing- In the harvested crop, the
grains need to be separated from the chaff. This is process is called
threshing.
· Weeds- The unwanted plants which may
grow naturally along with the crops are called weed.
· Weedicides- Weed are controlled by
using certain chemical called Weedicides like 2, 4-d.
· Winnowing- Winnowing is the process
of separating edible grain from chaff by using air that has some speed.
EXERCISE:-
1. Select the correct word from the
following list and fill in the blanks:-
Float, water, nutrients, preparation
(a) The same kind of plants are grown and
cultivated on a large scale at a place is called crop.
(b) The
first step before crop is preparation of the soil.
(c) Damaged seeds would float
on top of water.
(d) For
growing a crop, sufficient sunlight and water and nutrients from
the soil are essential.
2. Match
the items in column A with those in column B:-
Column A
Column B
(a) Kharif crop - paddy and maize
(b)Rabi crop - wheat, gram, pea
(c)Chemical fertilizers
- urea and super
phosphate
(d)Organic manure
- Animal excreta, cow
dung urine and
Plant waste
3. Give
two examples to each:-
(a) Kharif crop- Paddy and Maize
(b)Rabi crop- Urea
and super phosphate
4. Write a paragraph in your own words on each of
the following:-
(a) Preparation of soil: - Soil preparation is necessary
before growing a crop. It involves tilling and loosening the soil. This allows
the roots to penetrate deep in the soil and to breathe easily even when they
are deep.
(b) Sowing: - The process of putting seeds into the soil is
called sowing. The total used traditionally for sowing seeds is funnel shaped.
Nowadays a seed drill is used for sowing with the help of tractors. This tool
sows the seeds uniformly at a proper distance and depth.
(c)Weeding: - Some undesirable plants grow along with crop and
these unwanted plants are called weeds. The process of removing these unwanted
plants is called weeding.
(d)Threshing:-The process of separating the grain seeds from
the chaff is called threshing.
5. Explain
how fertilizers different from manure?

1.
A fertilizer is
an inorganic Salt. |
Manure is a
natural Substance obtained by the
Decomposition of cattle dung, Human waste and plant residues. |
|
2. A fertilizer is prepared for fields. |
Manure can be prepared in the Factories. |
|
3. A fertilizer does not provided humus to any humus to the soil. |
Manure provides a lot of the soil.
|
|
4. Fertilizers are very rich in plant nutrients like nitrogen Phosphorous and potassium. |
Manure is relatively less rich in
plants nutrients. |
6. What is irrigation? Describe two
methods of irrigation which conserve water.
Ans:- The
artificial method of watering the plants for assisting in their growth is called irrigation.
Two methods
which helps us
to conserve water.
(a) Sprinkler irrigation system: - This irrigation
system has an arrangement of vertical pipes with rotating nozzles on the top. It
is more useful in the uneven and sandy land where sufficient water is available.
(b) Drip irrigation system: - This
irrigation system has an arrangement of pipes or tubes with the very small
holes in them to water plants drop by drop just at the base of the root. It is
very difficult as water is not available.
7. If wheat is sown in the Kharif season,
what would happen? Discuss?
Ans:- Wheat crop is sown from November/December to
march/April. It is grown in winter and requires less water. If wheat is sown in
Kharif season, its production will be decreased considerably.
8. Explain how soil gets
affected by the continuous plantation of crops in a field?
Ans:- Continuous plantation of crops makes the
soil poorer in certain nutrients as the crops take up nutrients from the oil. The
soil becomes infertile. It does not get enough time to replenish the nutrients.
9. What are the weeds? How can we control them?
Ans:- The undesirable and unwanted plants which grow naturally along with the crop are called weeds. The growth of weeds can be controlled by adopting many ways. Telling before sowing of crops helps in the uprooting and killing of weeds, which may then dry up and get mixed with the soil. Weeds are also controlled by using certain chemicals, called Weedicides. Weedicides are sprayed in the fields to kill the weeds.
